INTRODUCING DIE SELLERIE

DIE SELLERIE WIEN © VIENNA WEDEKIND

Die Sellerie is definitely one of my favourite gift shops in Vienna, not only because there’s so much to discover (I recommend you to take a look at the tiny paper sculptures or try the amazing LA BRUKET lavender soap!) but also because of the creative spirit in the store. It was found by 4 young graphic designers who wanted to share their passion for fonts, prints and design made in Austria. Every print at DIE SELLERIE is designed by them and that’s just one of many reasons why I love this shop! A couple of days ago I took the opportunity to interview two of the shop owners and introduce them to you:

What’s your name and function at the store?
Patrick Bauer and Georg Leditzky, we’re Co-founders and joint owners with our two friends Ulrike Dorner and Andreas Posselt.

When did you open DIE SELLERIE?
The store opened in November 2010 after nearly 1 year of preparation, renovation and
development of our first collection. Last may we also launched our webshop.

Why did you name your store DIE SELLERIE?
We wanted a German name (Sellerie means celery) to distinguish our roots and love for the German language – but
the name also incorporates the english “sell” and sounds a little bit like a chic french boutique.

What can a customer expect at the shop?
A fine selection of fondly curated artisan design items made of wood, glass, concrete, fabric and paper and
our (self designed) collection of unique fine art prints, stationary, gift wrap paper, etc.

Where do you find inspiration for your store?
We always keep an eye on our favorite blogs, magazines, trade shows, design stores and try to fathom possible cooperations with
local businesses. Traveling is also a good way for us to keep open minded and recharge our creative batteries from time to time …

How do you choose the pieces for your store?
All four of us share the same beliefs, that – for ethical, economic and ecologic reasons – mass production in low-wage countries and unlimited availability of low quality goods is not acceptable for us and our brand. That makes it harder for us to find and develop new products
but at the other hand it’s a constant self imposed “filter”-mechanism to guarantee our customers the constant high level of quality they expect.

What is your favourite piece at the SELLERIE?
Current favorites are our earthware vases, which we developed with local ceramist Barbara Wihann,
Ulrikes new fine art print “Wild at Heart” and our Vienna inspired fine art print “C’est la Vienne“*.
