THE SANTORINI GUIDE
Lost my heart in Santorini. This picturesque greek island in the Aegean Sea definitely deserves a spot on our travel bucket lists. Although it might not be the calmest island, thanks to the buzzing tourists (+ hundreds of fake brides & grooms) and drones (disturbance 2.0), Santorini has a lot to offer. From relaxing pool hangs and peaceful hiking tours to yummy vine tasting and epic boat trips. Here’s my guide to the best places in Santorini:
EAT & DRINK
There are some great fish restaurants in Oia, like the Ammoudi Fish Tavern, but our absolute favorite was the greek/cyprian restaurant Kyprida. You have to try the special dinner for 2, where they serve 15 traditional dishes like Fava, Tsatsiki and minced meat.
Best lunch spot: Galini Cafe in Thira. They serve the best greek salat for a very reasonable price + you’ll get an amazing view over the caldera for free. Also try the lemon cake and truffles at the Melenio Bakery in Oia. Yum!
STAY
I would recommend you to stay in Oia, probably the most beautiful city in Santorini. It’s a 30min car/bus ride away fromt the capital, Thira and has a magical view over the caldera. We’ve chosen the Charisma Suites for our getaway, which was the best decision ever. It’s a super quiet boutique hotel and a bit offside from the tourist masses. But I’ve also seen some really nice Airbnb apartments.
EXPLORE
My absolute Santorini Highlight: The 10km walk from Oia to Thira. You’ll get to see the most breathtaking views over the island with almost no-one else around you. It’s the best way to explore the island, but you need to wear hike-appropriate trainers and carry enough water with you!
If you like to explore Santorini by boat, I recommend to take the 5h Katamaran Tour. You get to see the famous Red Beach, the hot springs of the volcano (swimming allowed!) and finally the epic sunset over Oia.
Santorini is quite famous for it’s wine and if you’ve got a thing for Rosé & Co, you should book a greek wine tasting at Domaine Sigalas.
