The christmas festivities are fast approaching and the „what am I going to wear“ question starts popping up. Even my doctor asked me the other day what my sartorial plans for Christmas Eve were and if I could share some festive dressing trends with her. Yes, I could.

As a minimalist that prefers pants over skirts/dresses my answer to any festive wear dilemma is: A SUIT! It is sophisticated yet comfortable (= room for cookies & punch) and embraces feminity and confidence. Here are 3 Outfit Ideas for the upcoming celebrations, focusing on the Festive Suit:

CLASSICS WITH A FESTIVE TWIST

Here’s the good news: basically every suit can be glammed up! Just choose a monochrome two-piece in a decent colour palette – preferably black/white/bordeaux/charcoal (like this wonderful Jil Sander Suit) – and add some festive accessories. A big trend this season: XL Rhinestone Earrings, either chandeliers or (like in my case) fringe earrings. Adding an eye-catching bag (satin or sequins would be a good choice) or even a faux fur stola will take any suit to festive territory. Let’s not forget about the make-up, which can also upgrade your look in no time.

SUITED SEQUINS

Yes you heard it right: sequins could also work for simple-style lovers. We only need 2 important ingredients to master a festive sequin suit. 1. Choose a muted color like black, deep purple, burgundy or dark green. 2. Keep the rest of the look super super simple! Means: No jewelry (because you already wear the jazz), basic heels (simple black sandals always work) and either a monochrome turtleneck (= black or white) or a cotton bodysuit.

Of course you can also wear your sequins solo and choose a blazer instead of a suit. Simply pair it with black leather pants or velvet trousers for a more muted approach. But for those of you who like to push the sexy button for Christmas, a Sequined blazer dress could be a festive option…

MODERN VELVET

Velvet is definitely the epitome of festive wear and it wouldn’t be Christmas or New Year’s Eve without this super soft fabric. But for those who don’t like wearing skirts, dresses or jumpsuits a velvet two-piece could be a great alternative! I myself am obsessed with this black suit, which is both comfy and sophisticated. I’ve worn mine on many occasions now (like a gala dinner and during Milan Fashion Week) and can highly recommend it. The coolest way to wear a velvet suit is with either no bra or a lace bra underneath (hashtag fashiontape). Of course a turtleneck or a T-Shirt would also work with this. If you’re sporting a black velvet suit you can definitely add some statement earrings to the mix or a pair of killer heels.
