MARRAKECH CITY GUIDE
My guide to a dreamy weekend in Marrakech:
HOW TO GET THERE: Thanks to Fly Niki and its direct flights, Marrakech is just a 4 hour flight away from Vienna!
1 Movie and 2 magazines later you are landing in a whole new world.
DAY 1
Refreshing Orange Juice at DJEMAA-EL-FNAA // Rue el Ksour
This market truly is the heart of Marrakech, so let’s start your trip here! During the day you’ll see snake charmers, magicians and story tellers. In the evening the Market turns into the largest kitchen you’ll ever seen, where you can eat everything you like. Such a buzzing place.
MUST: Buy a glas of fresh orange juice (approx. 0,40€)
A stroll through LA MAMOUNIA’S ROYAL GARDENS // Avenue Prince Moulay Rachid
The most beautiful garden I’ve ever seen. Olive trees, oranges, heavenly smelling flowers everywhere. The garden was once a wedding present from the Moroccan king to his son – now it’s part of the luxurious La Mamounia Hotel, but it’s also open for public!
MUST: Eat a macaron at the garden tea house.
Traditional Dinner at LE MAROCAIN // Avenue Prince Moulay Rachid
Enjoy traditional live music, private corners, amazing local Rosé wine and delicious Moroccan food!
DAY 2
Visit Saint Laurents Garden JARDIN MAJORELLE + BERBER MUSEUM // Rue Yves St Laurent
Yves Saint Laurent once fell in love with the garden and bought it together with his partner Pierre Bergé. Now it’s a dreamy garden, full of palm trees and cacti, with walls painted it the famous Majorelle Blue (5th picture). The perfect place to wander around and clear your head.
MUST: Don’t miss the Berber Museum in the garden, it’s full of traditional Berber costumes and jewellery!
Enjoy a Club Sandwich at CAFE BOUSAFSAF // Rue Yves Saint Laurent
The best post-museum thing to do is to sit down, eat a sandwich and use the WIFI. Charming cafe in the heart of the Jardin Majorelle.
Discover the modern Marrakech at AVENUE MOHAMMED VI
Marrakech isn’t only about the traditional shops, this modern disctrict is full of inspiring artwork and contemporary designs.
Order a Thé à la menthe at CAFÈ DE LA POSTE // Angle Boulevard el Mansour Eddahbi et, Avenue Imam Malik
Honestly, there’s no day in Marrakech where you don’t drink Mint tea!! Yummy
DAY 3
Get lost in Marrakech’s SOUKS
If you haven’t got lost in these crowded markets you haven’t been to Marrakech. It’s busy, it’s loud but it’s damn inspiring. You’ll see spices, leather, clothes, medicine, fruits, furniture. E V E R Y T H I N G. MUST: If you want to buy something you have to bargain! It’s a tradition and you’ll get a good price ;)
Recover at CAFÉ DES ÉPICES // Derb Rahba Lakdima
Put on one of their legendary straw hats, drink an ice cold coke and watch the buzzing life on the spice market…
Wander through the SPICE MARKET
Lunch & stunning views at TERRACE DES EPICES // 15, souk Cherifia. Sidi Abdelaziz.
The most beautiful rooftop restaurant with a stunning view! MUST: Try the tajine kefta!
Visit the beautiful BEN YOUSSEF MEDERSA KORAN SCHOOL // Kaat Benahid
An historic Koran School with amazing stucco work, marble, wooden doors and historic writings… Magical!
Enjoy a Coffee at NOMAD // 1, Derb Aarjan
