Hamburg, December 6th 2017.

The salty air is buzzing while the entrance of the newly opened Hamburg Elbphilharmonie transforms into a human anthill. 350 limousines go back & forth to spill out over 1,500 editors, fashion experts, fanatic customers & digital creatives from all over the world. They‘ve entered Hamburg via airplane, ships & trains – all with the same goal: To witness the Chanel Metiers d’Art Show and its epic creator Karl Lagerfeld.

The question is: Can one still get excited after working years and years in the fashion industry? Looking into the sparkling eyes of editors arriving at the Atlantic Kempinski (the home to all show guests) the answer was clear: yes you can!

It felt like sartorial christmas eve: the excitement (all guests got a special Maison Michel sailor cap), the anticipation (which doubled up throughout the 15min drive from the hotel to the show venue) and then finally at 7 p.m. the gift: a breathtaking Metiers D’art show dipped in magic, only Karl Lagerfeld can create.

Accompanied by a live orchestra playing the Shanty classic „La Paloma“, the models entered the huge theatre in a zig-zag, infecting the audience step by step with a Chanel Sailor Mania:

Showcasing the artisan skills of Chanel-owned specialist companies like Maison Michel (Hats), Barrie (Scottish cashmere), Massaro (shoes), Lesage (embroidery) and Lemarié (feathers & flowers) Lagerfeld chan(n)eled his hometown references (he was actually born & raised in Hamburg) in the most beautiful way. Chunky sailor knits in navy blue, XL sea bags, overknees and sailor caps (better known as Elbsegler). Also military coats, sailor pants, feather adorned dresses and embellished pumps. Ahoi!

And once more the House of Chanel sprinkled fashion magic over us and created a special desire, only Karl Lagerfeld could come up with. A textile Disneyland, that makes us dream and inspires us in such an unique way. I will never forget this special moment and I‘m beyond grateful that the wonderful Chanel Team made me witness to this magic…
