When you think about Rome, you think about the Colosseum, throwing coins into the Trevi Fountain* and indulge in a big bowl of Pasta. You might also think about the Spanish Stairs, Espresso doppio and the incredible architecture of the Pantheon. And most certainly you think about the long-standing family business that is called Fendi.
So when Fendi invited me to discover Rome and their new Forever Fendi Watch Collection I got a little excited. A) because I’ve never been to Rome before b) because I got to see the brand’s Headquarter, where all the beautiful clothes I’ve just seen at MFW where created and c) because I love keeping an eye on time and discover more about watchmaking.
I arrive at the Eternal city in the early morning – while Rome slowly awakes. The cars are already buzzing like bees, honking their way through the streets. Hurry up – got no time. My driver is an Italian Gentlemen, wearing a striped suit and a chic watch. We drive past huge palazzos, cypress alleys and terracotta dipped facades. Would like to stay a little longer. Rome is the city of ochre and pale pink. It’s a city that lives for its past but also embraces contemporary stories. The perfect place to unveil a new Timepiece.
Time is one of the most powerful tools we have. It can be a blessing and a curse. People say things like: Take your time or Only time will tell or Time flies or Time heals all wounds and they are most certainly right. When you go through bad days, every hour can feel agonisingly long and when you experience the most wonderful moments, time becomes relative and wraps you in a precious mist of memory…
But to preserve all that, it is good to own a watch. And if this watch is the new Forever Fendi Timepiece, inspired by the Roman Maison’s signature and heritage, it’s even better. Crafted in Switzerland, it expresses timeless elegance and sophistication. The dial is available in numerous versions, including mother-of pearl (which of course is hand cut and polished by the Maison, taking around 2-3h for 1 dial), genuine stones or polished lacquer. My favorite is the super slim, silver version – but you can always add a bit of bling (diamonds that is) to your Timepiece.
From the breathtakingly beautiful Palazzo Privé, a separated VIP space in the 2nd floor of the Fendi Flagship store (wich the most beautiful wooden floors and interior), the 18m high Bronze & Marble sculpture by Guiseppe Penone (a gift from Fendi to the city of Rome) to the impressive Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, the Fendi Headquarter since 2015: These 24hrs in Rome were utterly inspiring and I hope you like the new Fendi Watch as much as I do. Period.

* Did you know that Fendi was responsible for the cleaning & renovation of the Trevi Fountain in 2015? The work was reflecting the Maison’s Roman roots and its commitment to the beauty of the Eternal City. Bravo, Fendi!
